You find in this section several beads, buttons and thimbles, handmade and handpainted in Deruta for our Company, matching with our Deruta serie of designs, “Deruta by GPA” inspired by old majolica/pottery designs of Deruta art.
The Fuseruola is a little sphere used to balance the spindle when spinning. Known from Etruscan and Roman times, between the 14th and 17th centuries, it was glazed and then decorated in coloured "scales". Its central area or band was then stamped with delicate well-wishing or virtuous designs, or the name of a girl, to whom the distaff and the spindle, equipped with its fuseruola, were presented as a pledge of love. The town of Corciano, near Deruta, with the patronage of the Region of Umbria, held a competition to find the "Typical Umbrian Souvenir" which was won by "Le Antiche Fuseruole", S. Angelo di Celle, Deruta, Italy. We advise you to pay a visit to Corciano and Deruta......... You’ll be enchanted….

Kit D6: matching with the D6 Scissors Case and Fob. The button kit includes one DV-GPA1 large majolica Fuseruola bead (flying disc shaped) with Giulia Punti Antichi logo painted on the middle band for the tassel plus three small light blue beads for the case. The chart for the case plus instructions how to make the tassel will be available soon (March 2008). The tassel skirt is made with The Thread Gatherer Silk'n Colors silk threads: Midnight Cobalt 087, Whipporwill Lane 146, Straws into Gold 175 by wrapping the three skeins sections at the same time. The tassel neck is made with Whipporwill Lane.

DV-GPA: large majolica Fuseruola bead (flying disc shaped) with Giulia Punti Antichi logo. Available in two styles: only blue squares (DV-GPA1) or red and light blue squares (DV-GPA2). A lovely scissors tassel can be made with this bead.

DV-LSV kit: one large majolica Fuseruola bead (flying disc shaped) with Labor-Spes-Voluntas painted on the middle band plus one yellow small bead. The Latin words mean "work, hope, will" and they perfectly apply to the needleworker aptitude. Available as shown in photo. A lovely scissors tassel can be made with this kit and The Gentle ART Sampler Threads: Gold Leaf, Sugarplum, Royal Purple by wrapping the three skeins sections at the same time. The tassel neck is made with Gold Leaf.

FG-GG: large round majolica Fuseruola bead. Available in the style shown in photo. A lovely scissors tassel can be made with this bead and The Gentle ART Sampler Threads: Gold Leaf, Peacock, Gingersnap plus a skein of gold silk thread (Kreinik Silk Mori 2014).
First wrap the silk thread and then cover it by wrapping the three cotton threads at the same time. The silk threads sections will be inside the tassel skirt while the cotton threads sections will be outside. The tassel neck is made with the gold silk thread.
